The following are selections from the most memorable thoughts from the
late Dr. Dennis Cato.
December 2, 1996: Selections from the History Essay Test
- Fregault went with his "pathological thesis"
- 1760 - The War of Ste. Foy and the copulation of Montreal and New France.
- There were five people that were important in the war.
- Francis Parkman; Jean Hamilton; Pawman.
- Britain went to fight the fortress of Louisbourg on the Plains of Abraham.
- The British left then attacked from the side near Bouganville over a big ditch.
- The Battle of the Plain took place with Abraham on September 23, 1759.
- Hamelin really didn't make interpretations. He went by the book, sort of.
- Louis XIV built Place Versailles.
- There was a poem written by Evangeline.
- The final battle was fought in the fields of Louisbourg. Wolfe was the English sergent who ordered the attack.
- In 1755 General Braddock was killed by Germany.
- The Battle of the Plains of Abraham was another pretty good battle.
- The British, disguised as supply ships, snuck into Québec for a surprise attack.
January 27, 1997: Selections from the History Essay Test
- Jacques Cartier found himself in the St. Lawrence, which he was greatly
interested.
- The lord said "no" to Papineau about his resolutions
- The Rebellion all started off as conflict and soon became the Rebellion
- Papineau placed his 92 resolutions with a bill but they were rejected so Papineau ran away to London
- The French had created a Rebellion Group which was called "les fils du
Roi"
- This is another area in which I am somewhat ignorant of
- 50 Patriotes were killed and their 12 leaders were hung for a public display that you should not mess with the British
- Reasons for the Rebellion were simple. They were weak, they weren't too smart either.
- Durham had two suggestions: to get the Rebellions finished and to make
French into useless people
Wednesday, April 16, 1997: Selections from the History Essay Test on the Depression
- What was so great about the great depression? It's so depressing
- The depression was a hard dent in Canadian history
- Adrian Arcand didn't like the Jews, and wanted the Jews to go back to Palestine and Hudson Bay.
- Many said that once they receive a job they should pay back what they owed. That meant no income until your deaths were all paid.
- The Communist party - this party was very popular in Canada but I don't
know why.
- The Co-Operative Common Wealthy Federation
Tuesday, May 13, 1997: Selections from the History Essay Test on the Second World War
- The war started when the Stock Market crashed.
- After the fall of Poland there was a period of inactivity. This was called the funny war.
- The war had many courses.
- The Germans had many allies. Like Mussolini in Italy and most of the Asians.
- In 1942 Japan had conquerred Germany
- When we final;ly won, we went to Italy kill that Mussolini fool and hang his sorry butt from a lampost
- The French defensive system (the magnetic line) had failed.
- The constriction crisis was very big.
Tuesday, May 20, 1997: Selections from the History Essay Test on the Second World War
- The Canadian Army fought right up through the peninsula of Italy and finally into Italy itself.
- Mussolini opposed Canadian involvement because he feared conscription would be imposed.
- The Canadian Navy protected convoys to Britain and Russia, as well as protecting merchant ships.
- Also at this time, Japan would bomb an american ship "Pearl Harbor" thinking they were helping the British
- John Stalin, a Russian Communist...
- Germany always had a very stong military background like for example in
Prussia in the late 18th and early 19th century Alexander the Great was
there so that always had a very strong military background.
- Germany wanted to declare war on Britain. But Britain told Germany that
they wouldn't fight until Germany defeated Poland.
- There were no good team or no bad team. Both sides were equal and were
fighting for their rights.
- The navy was the 3004th most powerful navy in the world
- In World War II Adolf Hitler played a vital role. He was in the Nazi army.
- You were not able to fight in the war if you had flat feet.
- Canada was one of the main supporters of heavy machinery for the war but they had so much and not enough people to use the machinery.
- When Canada declared war on Germany and its allies the government of Canada had no idea what pain and suffering that the soldiers and their families would feel, because the government personnel sit on their fat asses all day trying to run the country but they would not feel the effects of the war personally.

- Weeks after giving birth last February that Michael Jackson's wife returned to work as his plastic surgeon's assistant: 6
- Rank of Salt Lake City in per capita Jello consumption: 1
- Number of years the head of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America served as CEO of a Pharmaceutical Firm: 12
- Number of years the editor of Divorce Magazine spent working at Wedding
Bells Magazine: 3
- Chance that a romance cited by People Magazine last year as among the century's "greatest love stories" was adulterous: 1 in 2
- Chances that a US doctor specializing in pain has under-medicated patients for fear of losing his or her license: 2 in 5
